WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

Empowering Communities Through Clean Water and Hygiene

At Sukaar Foundation, we believe that access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is not just a basic human right — it’s the foundation of community health, resilience, and development. Our WASH initiatives are designed to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable communities across Sindh, especially in disaster-prone and water-scarce regions like Tharparkar.

What We Do?

  • Safe Water Supply Systems
We design and install sustainable water systems, including solar-powered pumps, rainwater harvesting tanks, and gravity-fed pipelines. Our goal is to ensure year-round access to clean and safe drinking water.
  • Improved Sanitation Facilities
Sukaar Foundation constructs gender-sensitive latrines, communal toilets, and drainage systems that promote dignity, safety, and environmental health. We also work with local governments to improve public sanitation infrastructure in rural and urban communities.
  • Hygiene Promotion and Education
Through targeted hygiene campaigns and school-based programs, we raise awareness on handwashing, menstrual hygiene management, and disease prevention. We equip families with hygiene kits and behavior change tools to promote lasting impact.

Our Impact

  • Reduced incidence of waterborne diseases like diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid.
  • Increased school attendance, particularly for girls, due to improved menstrual hygiene facilities.
  • Strengthened community resilience against droughts, floods, and health emergencies.

Innovations in WASH

Sukaar Foundation is known for pioneering low-cost, community-led solutions such as:

  • Rainwater Harvesting Models adapted for arid zones.
  • Eco-friendly latrine designs for flood-prone areas.
  • WASH Governance Models that link communities with local authorities for sustainability.

By integrating WASH into our broader development goals, we empower communities to live with dignity, reduce health risks, and build a sustainable future.
